Today I am going to be looking at Copyright laws, and how they affect teachers and students.

Copyright means that when someone creates an original piece of work, others must obtain permission in order to use it.  This would obviously be very challenging and would not allow for people to creatively share the work of others. For this reason, Creative Commons licences were created. A Creative Commons licence allows for the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through a licence that allows the public to use your work.

It is most important for students to understand that they are allowed to use materials from the Internet, but they must site where they got the information. Students should also understand that all work they create is also protected by copyright. This means that the parents or guardians of students must authorize the further use of their work.
